- W101651397 abstract "Circadian rhythms can be entrained to various periods not too far from their own “natural period”. The size of this “range of entrainment” depends mainly on two factors: the degree of persistance of the oscillation (KLOTTER, 1960) and the strength of the entraining Zeitgeber. The term “strength” as used here comprises the physical characteristics of the Zeitgeber, especially its “amplitude”, as well as the responsiveness of the biologic system to the entraining signals (ASCHOFF, 1960). Within the range of entrainment, the phase-angle difference between the rhythm and the Zeitgeber changes in a predictable manner, with increasingly leading phases towards long periods, and lagging phases towards short periods. Ranges of entrainment differ among species, but may also be different for various functions within an organism. In the following paragraphs, several of these aspects are discussed from a comparative aspect." @default.
