- W1136448452 abstract "This chapter discusses heterocyclic nitrogenous bases derived from purines and pyrimidines— adenine, guanine or cytosine, uracil, and thymine, and the corresponding nucleosides and nucleotides. There are polyphosphate derivatives and modified nucleosides as additional constituents of the anabolic and catabolic processes of nucleic acids in the cell, or nucleotide coenzymes, and antibiotics as constituents of the metabolic processes. Large numbers of derivatives and analogs of the nucleic acid constituents result from in vitro synthetic activity in organic chemistry laboratories, where the increasingly used nucleotides and oligonucleotides are synthesized, tested, and used. Detection of separated constituents is based on adsorption of short wavelength ultraviolet (UV) light (254 nm), which permits registration of the separation process using a contact photo print placed on the paper and passing UV light on to the light-sensitive material. Quantification is performed by direct measurements in a scintillation counter on areas cut out from the paper using the autoradiograph." @default.
