- W1497338086 abstract "Nanotechnology is a fast-developing cutting-edge technology with wide-ranging applications in different areas of science and technology. Novel routes by which extremophiles can be employed to generate nanoparticles (NPs) have yet to be discovered. However, a fundamental understanding of the bioreduction of metallic ions in standard microorganisms would assist in determining the physical and chemical parameters required for continuous production of well-defined NPs from extremophiles in a fermentative solution. Therefore, this chapter discusses the extremophiles explored for biosynthesis of NPs and the mechanisms by which standard microorganisms biosynthesize NPs in order to correlate unexplored routes for producing NPs from extremophiles. In view of the tremendous industrial potential of NPs created using extremophiles, the chapter also sheds light on the specifics of fermentation media and recovery of NPs from the microbiological process using standard microorganisms. A brief discussion of limitations and challenges helps to further outline the future of extremophile-mediated nanotechnology." @default.
