Les IRS phosphorylés serviront d’ancrage pour des protéines qui transmettent le signal insuline à des cibles par l’activation de nombreux systèmes (e.g. PI3-kinase). La résistance à l’insuline qui accompagne le diabète de type 2 et l’obésité est liée à une disponibilité intracellulaire accrue en acides gras qui en servant de précurseurs à des médiateurs lipidiques entraînent une diminution du signal insuline. Les thérapies permettant de combattre la résistance à l’insuline pourraient donc cibler des protéines impliquées dans la disponibilité intracellulaire en acides gras.
