- W2079978894 abstract "The term flysch has a definite meaning; it is applied to sedimentary groups having certain specific characteristics in common with each other. The causes of possible mistakes in the definition of flysch, resulting from a selection of particular but not specific characteristics, are presented. A quantitative definition of the flysch is possible, based on parameters expressing specific characteristics. These characteristics, studied from the point of view of genetics, allow us to group the thicker detrital series of mobile basins into three categories of groups which even in the field reveal a close correlation between the petrography, the disposition of sediments and the tectonics: (1) flysch, sediments of basins with a very high coefficient of contraction, where the influence of the infra-structure is fundamental; (2) molasse, sediments of basins varying from average to very low coefficients of contraction; and (3) formations related to the flysch, sediments of basins varying from average to high coefficients of contraction. The structures of the groups of the third type are often very closely related to those of flysch. However, as is revealed by petrographic analysis, the evolution of sediments takes place outside any direct influence of the infra-structure. Some data from recent oceanographic and geophysical discoveries are in agreement with problems raised by the study of flysch. Le terme flysch a un sens précis; il s'applique à des ensembles sédimentaires qui présentent un certain nombre de caractéres spécifiques liés les uns aux autres. Les causes de confusion possible dans la définition d'un flysch, résultant d'un choix de caractères particuliers mais non spécifiques, sont mises en évidence ici. On est ainsi conduit à rechercher une définition quantitative du flysch sur la base de paramètres exprimant les caractères spécifiques. D'autre part, les caractères des dépôts de flysch étudiés du point de vue génétique nous permettent de grouper les séries détritiques épaisses des bassins mobiles en trois catégories d'ensembles qui sur le terrain déjà montrent une étroite corrélation entre la pétrographie, l'agencement sédimentaire et la tectonique: (1) le flysch, dépôts de bassins à très fort coefficient de raccourcissement et où l'influence de l'infra-structure est fondamentale; (2) la molasse, dépôts de bassins à coefficient de raccourcissement moyen à très faible; et (3) les formations apparentées à un flysch, dépôts de bassins à coefficient de raccourcissement moyen à fort. Ces dernières possèdent souvent des structures très rapprochées de celles d'un flysch; cependant, l'analyse pétrographique le prouve, l'évolution des dépôts s'effectue en dehors d'une influence directe de l'infra-structure. Certaines données actuelles apportées par les récentes découvertes océanographiques et géophysiques s'harmonisent avec les problèmes soulevés par l'étude du flysch." @default.
