- W2091025573 abstract "The singular systems analysis (SSA) method of Broomhead and King is applied to the reconstruction of phase portraits from experimental time series of temperature measurements taken simultaneously at up to 16 probes within a rotating thermal convection experiment, and used to characterize a number of different kinds of flow including the determination of their correlation dimension. Results are compared with equivalent reconstructions using more conventional “method of delays” embedding and SSA applied in the time domain only to data obtained from a single thermocouple probe. Multivariate SSA (M-SSA) is shown to offer significantly improved reconstructions in terms of signal:noise ratio and structural uniformity of the attractor over earlier methods. This is due mainly to the ability of M-SSA to combine simultaneously information sampling the complete range of the spatial cross-correlation function in signals with complex spatio-temporal structure." @default.
