- W2207308832 abstract "This review is devoted to an important yet poorly studied topic, investigations of plant responses to heavy metals (HMs) in salinized environments. It embraces information obtained mainly during the last decade. Specific features of the actions of NaCl and HMs on plants from various ecological groups are considered. The patterns of HM accumulation and organ specificity under saline conditions are outlined for salt marsh halophytes, terrestrial halophytes, crops, and aquatic macrophytes. Special attention is paid to potential mechanisms of physical and chemical interaction between ions of HMs and chloride in soil as one of the key factors that determine the specificity of HM uptake by plants. Based on the data available in the literature and the results of their own investigations, the authors attempted to analyze the physiological mechanisms of plant adaptation to the simultaneous action of high HM concentrations and excessive salinity. Knowledge of the basics of plant tolerance to the joint action of damaging factors is a prerequisite for the elaboration of innovative phytoremediation technologies for polluted territories." @default.
