A mine reclamation plan will be developed from these criteria and the engineering requirements of the mine. Because the land now supports substantial wildlife populations, wildlife habitat was selected as the post-mining land-use objective, to be achieved by revegetating with native plant species. The major environmental considerations were wildlife, vegetation, soils, and topography.Range adjacent to the disturbed land will be improved to support wildlife displaced during mining. Native grasses will be planted on appropriate exposures, and shrubs will be established in groups as reclamation progresses. The existing dark-brown loam soils will be redressed as a substrate for the native species.Recontoured spoil will be shaped to undulating slopes approximating the surrounding topography, compacted, and scarified prior to redressing with soil. Drainage basin configuration will be maintained to minimize hydrologic impacts.Other important aspects of reclamation include climatic influences, geohydrological constraints, and aesthetic considerations.
