- W2381292912 abstract "Objective To measure the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)in the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),and to evaluate the possible relationship between the two diseases.Methods Eighty-nine COPD patients and 88 non-COPD patients as controls in the outpatient department of Ruijin Hospital complet- ed the diagnostic questionnaire for GERD,the chronic mucus hypersecretion(CMH)questionnaire and lung function test. Results The GERD incidence was 18% in the COPD patients and 16% in the control subjects.The prevalences of GERD in the COPD patients with different severity were 11%(stageⅠ),24%(stageⅡ),11%(stageⅢ)and 19%(stageⅣ), respectively.No trend toward higher prevalence of GERD in the patients with severe airway obstruction ascertained by spirometry was observed.GERD was more prevalent in the COPD patients with severe dyspnea in comparison with the pa- tients with slight dyspnea(29% vs 15%,P=0.19).GERD was observed in 27% of the patients with CMH while only 8% in the patients without CMH(P＜0.05).Conclusions The prevalence of GERD might not increase in the patients with COPD, the patients with severe dyspnea might manifest more GERD,and there might appear a significant relationship between CMH and GERD.The potential role of CMH and the GERD should be considered while treating the COPD patients with CMH." @default.
