- W2890539351 abstract "The purpose of this investigation was to develop an undercarriagedesign technique to minimise aircraft response whiletaxying without causing deterioration of the landing response.Following a brief review of the available literature adetailed analysis is made of a general, three-dimensional,multi-degree-of-freedom, mathematical model which allowsfully for friction, stiction and non-linear damping invarious components of the undercarriage. Provision is alsomade for undercarriage bogie action, aerodynamic forces onthe aircraft and tyre forces.An optimisation procedure is proposed with maximum stressand fatigue of the aircraft structure and passenger or pilotride as constraint parameters.Results are presented for typical aircraft to show theapplicability of the mathematical model and suggestions madefor simplifications in it, in order to reduce computationtime.
