Rumination syndrome is a functional gastrointestinal disorder whose clinical diagnosis is based on the Rome IV criteria. Using esophageal high-resolution manometry, a specific pattern called « R-waves » has been described and confirms the diagnosis when observed. The pathophysiology of rumination syndrome is, to date, only partially known. Voluntary transient relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, which seems to trigger regurgitation of food, is the main target in the proposed treatment of rumination syndrome. Treatment can comprise behavioral techniques, such as diaphragmatic breathing or biofeedback, or medication such as baclofen. Since rumination syndrome is frequently responsible for diagnostic uncertainty and can be life-threatening, it is essential to diagnose and treat it in children." @default.
