Most of those structures have long since given in to the effects of time and weather; however, the Vicksburg Military Park of the National Park Service identified a local area of interest to survey in the hopes of finding one of these caves that could be preserved and restored. Electrical resistivity and shallow seismic techniques were used to search for a potential surviving structure. Although we determined that no identifiable geophysical anomalies are present at the known site of the Lewis Cave and any past structures have likely collapsed, it is an interesting story and application nonetheless.
