Penulis memiliki hipotesa bahwa perubahan kebijakan Finlandia dipengaruhi oleh gambaran musuh dan degeneratif. Hal ini penting untuk dianalisa karena pemahaman akan persepsi tipikal ideal dan gambaran stereotip dapat dijadikan teori strategi dan interaksi internasional. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan, riset ini mengadopsi landasan teori dari Herrmann dan Fischerkeller. Herrmann dan Fischerkeller mengkonseptualisasi gambaran yang bersifat individual menjadi kebijakan nasional melalui proses penelusuran. Herrmann dan Fischerkller berpendapat bahwa motivasi berbasis ancaman tidak cukup untuk menjelaskan kebijakan luar negeri tertentu, sehingga dibutuhkan gambaran-gambaran lain. Keduanya mengusulkan kemungkinan gambaran sekutu, imperialis dan koloni, disamping gambaran musuh dan degeneratif. Konsep ini memungkinkan penulis untuk menganalisa interaksi antara gambaran yang kuat akan Rusia di Finlandia dengan kebijakan luar negeri yang Finlandia adopsi. Riset ini menemukan bahwa ternyata di Finlandia tidak hanya gambaran musuh dan degeneratif yang dominan, namun juga gambaran sekutu terhadap Rusia. Riset ini juga mengeksplorasi dinamika politik domestik Finlandia dan bagaimana hal tersebut mempengaruhi gambaran tertentu untuk menjadi dominan. This research aims to analyse the changing Finnish foreign policy towards Russia overtime. Russia has been behaving aggressively in the international arena yet Finland, Russia's neighbour, has been responding differently. The author hypothesized the change to be influenced by both enemy and degenerate image. It is of an important matter to be scrutinised as dismantling the ideal typical perception and stereotypical image can be built as a theory of strategy and international interaction. In the attempt to address the issue, this research adopted a theoretical framework laid out by Herrmann and Fischerkeller. Both conceptualize the naturally individualistic image into a state-based foreign policy through process tracing. both also call for other images in explaining particular foreign policy as threat-based motivation is insufficient. both propose the possibility of ally, iomperialist and colony imageries in adidition to enemy and degenerate imageries. This concept allows the author to scrutinise the interaction between the prevailing images of Russia in Finland and the actually adopted foreign policy in Finland. The finding here is the existence of ally image, in addition to enemy and degenerate image. The research also explores the dynamics of Finnish domestic politics and how it influences certain image to become dominant." @default.
