- cod;;1:16-cv-02732_de106 RegisterActionDescriptionText "MINUTE ORDER: The Scheduling Conference set March 18, 2020 is VACATED. The Court directs that counsel make a serious effort within the next 30 days to settle the dispute by finding a way to accommodate Mr. 8F39CB0 reasonable religious needs in a manner that is consistent with the reasonable security and safety needs of the facility. In a previous case (Jenner v. Brightwell et al, 1:11-cv-01497-RBJ-KMT) that was tried in this Court, I found based upon expert testimony from a rabbi that the inmate's reasonable desire to comply with Jewish law could be accommodated in various ways including using tea light instead of a burning candle and in other ways, and that I believe that reasonable accommodations should be agreeable and attainable. If they have exercised their best efforts in good faith to resolve their disputes in that manner but have not been able to do so, then counsel are directed to jointly contact Chambers at jackson_chambers@cod.uscourts.gov to set a trial. The Court sua sponte extends the deadline for plaintiff' response to the pending motion for judgment on the pleadings (not to exceed 10 pages) to April 27, 2020. No further extension will be permitted. By Judge R. Brooke Jackson on 3/17/2020. Text Only Entry (rbjsec. ) (Entered: 03/17/2020)" @default.
