- ilcd;;1:17-cv-01484_de27 RegisterActionDescriptionText "TEXT ORDER: Entered by Judge Sara Darrow on 4/17/2018. Plaintiff filed a Motion to Request Counsel 24 . Plaintiff has no constitutional or statutory right to counsel in this case. In considering the Plaintiff's motion, the court asks: (1) has the indigent Plaintiff made a reasonable attempt to obtain counsel or been effectively precluded from doing so; and if so, (2) given the difficulty of the case, does the plaintiff appear competent to litigate it himself? Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 654-55 (7th Cir. 2007). Plaintiff has shown that he made a reasonable attempt to secure counsel on his own. Plaintiff states in his motion that he has a 10th grade education and that medical issues affect his ability to focus and concentrate for long periods of time. Plaintiff, however, has personal knowledge of the facts, he has been able to adequately communicate them to the Court, he should be able to obtain relevant documents via discovery and this case does not appear to be overly complex at this time. Accordingly, the Court finds that Plaintiff is capable of representing himself. Plaintiff's motion 24 is DENIED with leave to renew. (LN, ilcd) (Entered: 04/17/2018)" @default.
