- ilnd;;1:03-cv-01432_de11 RegisterActionDescriptionText "MINUTE ORDER of 7/2/03 by Hon. Joan B. Gottschall : Petitioner, who is proceeding in forma pauperis, has moved this court to appoint counsel. Petitioner is a citizen of Mexico and cannot read or writ in English. The only words he knows in English are greetings. While petitioner drafted his petition with the help of a bilingual inmate, that inmate has been transferred and will no longer be able to assist petitioner with his filings. Petitioner is wary of entrusting confidential information to fellow inmates. Petitioner seeks counsel not only because of his language difficulty, but also because he feels the complexity of a Section 2255 case is beyond his capability. In light of these serious limitations, as well as the fact that petitioner has raised potentially meritorious arguments in his petition, the court concludes that the interests of justice require that petitioner's motion for appointment of counsel [10-1] be granted. 18 U.S.C. Section 3006A(a)(2)(B). The court will appoint an attorney, preferably one who also speeks Spanish, from among the general pool of eligible attorneys. Mailed notice (ar) (Entered: 07/02/2003)" @default.
