- ilnd;;1:05-cv-07292_de45 RegisterActionDescriptionText "MINUTE entry before Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan : This matter is before the court on the parties' request for a protective order. A court should not grant a protective order absent a compelling to do so and the court should ensure that the order covers only materials that need to be kept confidential for legitimate reasons. See Jepson, Inc. v. Makita Elec. Works, Ltd., 30 F.3d 854, 858 (7th Cir. 1994)(stating that "[a]s a general proposition, pretrial discovery must take place in the [sic] public unless compelling reasons exist for denying the public access to the proceedings")(quoting American Tel. & Tel. Co. v. Grady, 594 F.2d 594, 596 (7th Cir. 1978)). The protective order proposed by the parties in the instant action lacks specificity and does little more than indicate that materials which the parties believe should be confidential will be kept confidential. Also, there is no explanation by the parties regarding the need for a protective order. Therefore, we deny the parties' request for a protective order without prejudice. Mailed notice (mw, ) (Entered: 04/18/2006)" @default.
