- ilcd;;1:16-cv-01161_de19 RegisterActionDescriptionText "TEXT ONLY ORDER entered by Judge Joe Billy McDade on 12/16/2016. Plaintiff files 15 , a motion for recruitment of pro bono counsel. Plaintiff claims to have a psychiatric history and asserts that a lawyer could more adequately present his claims. In considering Plaintiffs Motion, the Court asks: (1) has the indigent Plaintiff made a reasonable attempt to obtain counsel or been effectively precluded from doing so; and if so, (2) given the difficulty of the case, does the plaintiff appear competent to litigate it himself? Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 654-55 (7th Cir. 2007), citing Farmer v. Haas, 990 F.2d 319, 322 (7th Cir.1993). Here, Plaintiff has provided a single letter from an attorney denying the representation. This letter is dated July 7, 2015, almost one year prior to Plaintiff filing his complaint. Here, the Court finds that Plaintiff has not demonstrated that he made a reasonable attempt to obtain counsel on his own. 15 is DENIED. In the event Plaintiff renews his motion for appointment of counsel, he should include letters he has written to attorneys and any responses he has received.
