- ilcd;;1:17-cv-01444_de26 RegisterActionDescriptionText "TEXT ORDER: Entered by Judge Sara Darrow on 2/12/2018. Plaintiff filed a Motion to Request Counsel 18 . Plaintiff has no constitutional or statutory right to counsel in this case. In considering the Plaintiffs motion, the court asks: (1) has the indigent Plaintiff made a reasonable attempt to obtain counsel or been effectively precluded from doing so; and if so, (2) given the difficulty of the case, does the plaintiff appear competent to litigate it himself? Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 654-55 (7th Cir. 2007). Plaintiff has shown that he made a reasonable attempt to secure counsel on his own. Plaintiff has personal knowledge of the facts, he has demonstrated an ability to coherently present them to the Court, he should be able to obtain relevant documents through the discovery process, and this case does not appear to be overly complex at this stage. Accordingly, the Court finds that Plaintiff is capable of representing himself at this time. Plaintiff's motion 18 is DENIED with leave to renew. Plaintiff's Motion for Status 23 is GRANTED. All defendants have been served except for Defendant 50A7716. The Clerk sent Defendant 50A7716 a request for waiver of service on December 18, 2017 16 . Defendant 50A7716 answer is not due until February 19, 2018. (LN, ilcd) (Entered: 02/12/2018)" @default.
