- ilcd;;2:16-cv-02019_de60 RegisterActionDescriptionText "TEXT ORDER Entered by Judge Colin Stirling Bruce on 10/5/17. Plaintiff files 45 , a motion for recruitment of pro bono counsel. The Court does not possess the authority to require an attorney to accept pro bono appointments on civil cases such as this. Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 653 (7th Cir. 2007). The most that the Court can do is to ask for volunteer counsel. Jackson v. County of McLean, 953 F.2d 1070, 1071 (7th Cir. 1992)(holding that it is a fundamental premise that indigent civil litigants have no constitutional or statutory right to be represented by counsel in federal court.) In determining whether the Court should attempt to find an attorney to voluntarily take a case, the question is whether the plaintiff appears competent to litigate her own claims, given their degree of difficulty. Pruitt at 655. Plaintiff claims that she is bipolar and schizophrenic and that her uncle, currently incarcerated, has been helping her. Plaintiff, however, is no longer in custody and not subject to the restrictions imposed on prisoners. To date, her filings have been adequate and Plaintiffs claim of deliberate indifference regarding her unattended labor and childbirth involve issues of which she has first-hand knowledge. 45 is DENIED at this time. This case is now referred to Magistrate Judge Long for a settlement conference. The clerk is directed to add Judge Longs referral to the case. (SKR, ilcd) (Entered: 10/05/2017)" @default.
