- ilcd;;4:17-cv-04321_de44 RegisterActionDescriptionText "TEXT ORDER: Per the discussions at the 10/26/18 conference, Defendants' motions for extensions to respond to discovery are granted over Plaintiff's objections. (d/e's 23 , 28 , 32 .) Defendants represent that they have now responded to the discovery requests, having mailed the last interrogatory answers to Plaintiff on 10/26/18. Plaintiff's motion for a settlement conference is granted. (d/e 31 .) Plaintiff has no objection to this Court conducting the settlement conference. By October 31, 2018, defense counsel is directed to: (1) inform the Court if Defendants would rather have this Court or Magistrate Judge Schanzle-Haskins conduct the settlement conference; (2) inform the Court if Defendants consent to the Magistrate Judge; and, (3) file Defendants' responses to Plaintiff's discovery requests. Plaintiff's motion to compel will remain pending until the Court reviews Defendants' discovery responses. Dispositive motions are due November 30, 2018. Plaintiff's motions for counsel are denied. (d/e's 20 , 22 , 25 .) The Court cannot order an attorney to accept pro bono appointment on a civil case such as this. Pruitt v. Mote, 503 F.3d 647, 653 (7th Cir. 2007). On this record, Plaintiff appears competent to proceed pro se. His pleadings adequately convey the factual basis for his claims, and he already has personal knowledge of many of the relevant facts underlying his claims. Plaintiff expressed himself well at the status conference, and he has obtained his G.E.D. and is taking advantage of all the programming and training available to him at the Kewanee Life Skills Re-entry Center. Plaintiff's motion for an order and motion for status are moot. (d/e's 30 , 33 .) Entered by Judge Sue E. Myerscough on 10/26/2018. (DM, ilcd) (Entered: 10/26/2018)" @default.
