In this paper, the influence of the novel designed annular laser beam and the laser scanning speed, on the surface finish of thin wall parts, is investigated. The parameters of microscopic roughness R a and macroscopic waviness W t are used to represent surface characteristics. The results show that the annular laser beam, producing a higher temperature at the edges than at the center, is beneficial to obtain smooth surfaces. By increasing the laser scanning speed, the surface finish of thin-wall parts can be significantly improved. With the optimized scanning speed of 8 mm/s, thin-wall parts with attractive surface finish at R a = 3 µm and W t = 18 µm are formed by annular laser beam." @default.
