• W3136301807 abstract "Scientists look for new materials that can be used for the synthesis of drug carriers. Growing popularity is observed for poly(hydroxybutyric acid) (PHB). This biocompatible and biodegradable biopolymer may support the proper growth and proliferation of epidermal cells. In the research, composites based on PHB and containing nanogold have been synthesized. Nanocomposites differed in the molecular weight of the crosslinking agent used for the formation of polymer network and in the amount of nanogold introduced into the polymer matrix. Swelling properties, behavior in simulated body fluids and surface morphology of nanocomposites have been analyzed. It can be concluded that by the application of suitable crosslinker and specific amount of nanogold it is possible to control the sorption capacity of analyzed samples and affect their behavior in simulated body fluids. Type of crosslinker used affected the crosslinking density and determined the compactness of the polymer structure influencing the sorption properties and degradation. Nanogold present in polymer matrix also affected its pace of degradation. It is essential in viewpoint of the application of these materials in medicine, for example, as drug carriers because it is possible to obtain several variants of such materials that will be personalized for patients depending on their needs." @default.
