- W4310256181 abstract "Cryogenic fluids exhibit intricate properties that introduce a number of complexities when used in modern energy infrastructure, especially during storage, transport, and following accidental spills. In particular, phase change may occur in cryogens either by inertial effects leading to cavitation or heat transfer leading to boiling. Such complex cryogenic processes must be properly understood in order for cryogenic liquids to be safely used for storing renewable energy and as transportation fuels. Computational fluid dynamics is increasingly used to predict the flow evolution and behaviour of cryogens in industrial settings. In this review, we present the current methods employed for modelling the complex physical processes involved in storage, transport, and spills of cryogenic fluids, with specific focus on cavitation and pool boiling. Deficiencies in the current modelling approaches are highlighted and strategies for improving the modelling of cryogenic liquids in real-world environments are discussed." @default.
