• W4313018616 abstract "As a leading cause of worldwide deaths, lung cancer is a collection of diseases with diverse etiologies which include small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Numerous strategies have been adapted to combat the disease, and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as new players in both the oncogenesis and management of lung cancer. lncRNAs are transcripts that are not encoded into proteins but can play a pivotal role at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional, and epigenetic levels to either promote or suppress tumorigenesis. The pleiotropic nature of lncRNAs include regulation of hypoxic tumor microenvironment, perturbation of redox homeostasis, cell proliferation, motility, immortality, viability, angiogenesis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and therapy resistance which facilitate different pathways for lung carcinogenesis. lncRNAs either may be targeted to suppress oncogenic progress or may be themselves wielded for therapeutic implications. Several lncRNAs have the potential to serve as biomarkers and may play vital roles as therapeutic targets for future clinical research. By virtue of the diverse role of lncRNAs in cellular physiological processes, they have been prophesied as prospective molecular-targeted therapies as well as for combination chemotherapy against lung cancer. Therapeutic approaches with liposomes, lipid nanoparticles and viral vectors have been demonstrated for targeted delivery of lncRNAs. Although lncRNAs modulate several types of lung cancers, the deep understanding of their localization, functional motifs, structural and functional mechanisms, as well as interactions with other molecules are yet to be deciphered, and this warrants the future arena of clinical research." @default.
