- W4313640007 abstract "Soil erosion is a severe global concern with significant implications on land productivity and is primarily caused by fluvial process. This study reviews soil erosion models used to map the spatial extent of soil erosion and assess its rate. The emphasis of the review is on the geospatial-based most commonly used USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) and the USLE family models, such as RUSLE-1 (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation), RUSLE-2, and MUSLE (Modified Universal Soil Loss Equation). The RUSLE model is considered capable of predicting long-term soil loss under varied natural environmental conditions. Hence, different approaches are used to calculate factors of the RUSLE model for two case studies in the upper (Rishiganga) and marginal (Lower Chambal) Ganga River Basin. The lower Chambal basin represents the Indo-Gangetic plain topography with humid conditions and low precipitation. The Rishiganga basin represents Himalayan topography with the glaciated region and heavy precipitation. The RUSLE model has very accurately quantified the soil erosion rate in both regions, showing very similar values carried out in adjacent areas. The result shows the mean rate of soil loss of 9.82 ton/ha/yr in the Rishiganga and 1.58 ton/ha/yr in the lower Chambal basin. The results point out the versatility of the RUSLE model in terms of varying geomorphic conditions and morphodynamics." @default.
