- W100031585 abstract "This paper presents the ``techniques of correcting for spelling errors, orthographical errors, and grammatical errors in computer-based text. And this paper addresses an extension that goes beyond normal checking of isolated single word by taking multi-words as well as a sentence. The candidate words for spelling errors are created by applying function of rules and correction rule table that contains heuristic information of collocation. To prevent excessive creation of candidate words and improve accuracy, we use the high frequency word dictionary that contains 300,000 words derived from corpus. For constituent errors, by applying grammar based partialparsing rules, collocation words errors between the words can be found. We make an experiment with correction techniques on corpora that are the final result of SERI``s research, texts, newspaper materials, and public materials. The system has 98% accuracy rate when the 8.5% errors caused by unregistered words were excluded. The average number of prospective candidates suggested by the system is 1.12." @default.

@default.

- W100031719 abstract "Sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps) are popular pockets pets in Japan, Canada and United States and now gaining popularity in Malaysia. The close relationship between humans and pets may lead to possible health hazards if the animals are infected with zoonotic pathogens. To date, not much is known about the potential health hazard of keeping sugar gliders as pet. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the microbiological profile of oral mucosa in sugar gliders, to determine the occurrence of Salmonella spp. in sugar gliders and to determine the antibiotic resistance of the isolates against six types of antibiotics namely enrofloxacin, trimethoprim-sulfamethazole, tetracycline, ceftiofur, penicillin G and neomycin. Thirty-seven oral swabs and 37 faecal samples were collected from 18 individual owners and a breeder. Nine species of bacteria isolated were Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Escherichia coli, Pasteurella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus delphini and Streptococcus viridans. Most of the isolates were normal microflora in other pet animals, such as cats, dogs, and parrots. Eight (22.9%) faecal samples were positive for Salmonella spp of which only 1 (12.5%) was from individual owner, while the other seven (87.5%) were from the breeder. Two serovars of Salmonella spp. isolated were Salmonella Albany (62.5%) and Salmonella London (37.5%). The high occurrence of Salmonella in the animals suggested that they are of potential risk in disease transmission to humans. All the Salmonella spp. isolates were susceptible to three types of antibiotic, Enrofloxacin, Trimethoprim-Sulfamethazole, and Tetracycline. Of these isolates, 33.3% were sensitive to Ceftiofur and the rest were intermediately sensitive. However, all were resistant to Penicillin G and Neomycin. The presence of Salmonella spp. in these pet animals poses a health risk to the owners. Owners are advised to their wash their hands thoroughly after handling these animals, clean the cages frequently, bring these animals for regular veterinarian check-ups, and for immunocompromised people, to avoid handling these animals." @default.

- W1000317592 abstract "This chapter discusses the radioassay for dihydropteroate-synthesizing enzyme activity. Dihydropteroate-synthesizing enzyme catalyzes the coupling reaction of hydroxymethyldihydropterin or its pyrophosphate ester and p-AB to form dihydropteroic acid in the presence of both adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and Mg 2+ or Mg 2+ alone as cofactor. Because dihydropteroic acid has folic acid activity for microorganisms, the activity of this enzyme has been measured, by microbiological assay, with Streptococcus faecalis R . The enzyme is widely distributed in higher plants and high enzyme activity is also found in green leaves. The simple and rapid radioassay procedure discussed is based on the direct measurement of the formation of 14 C-labeled dihydropteroic acid from 14 C-labeled p-AB and pyrophosphorylmethyldihydropterin. The labeled dihydropteroic acid, produced by the enzymic reaction, is separated easily and satisfactorily from the labeled substrate by paper chromatography and the radioactivity of the paper section, containing the labeled product, is counted in a liquid scintillation counting system. By applying the radioassay procedure, the distribution of dihydropteroate-synthesizing enzyme in several higher plants has been investigated and the results are described in the chapter." @default.
- W100031841 abstract "An unresolved complication of the use of totally implantable central venous access ports (e.g., Mediport, Infusa-port) is persistent withdrawal occlusion (PWO), i.e. the unimpeded capacity for infusion of fluids accompanied by the inability to withdraw blood. This study demonstrates the mechanism of persistent withdrawal occlusion and describes a method for resolving this complication. Of 42 cancer patients with totally implantable central venous access ports, 8 (19%) patients developed 11 episodes of PWO. Venograms demonstrated a sheath around the catheter beginning at the catheter entrance to the central vein and extending 1-5 cm beyond the catheter tip. Each episode of PWO was treated with 250,000 units of urokinase dissolved in 150cc D5/W infused through the port over 90 minutes. Venograms were obtained immediately after each urokinase infusion. Follow-up ranged from 13-130 days. After urokinase infusion the venogram showed no change in the sheath in 1 episode of PWO and complete dissolution of the sheath in 10 episodes of PWO. PWO recurred once in one patient and twice in another patient. PWO resolved only in the 10 episodes in which sheath dissolution was demonstrated. Urokinase infusion, as described, is effective in resolving persistent withdrawal occlusion. The method is repeatable and safe. That resolution of PWO by urokinase infusion was accompanied by dissolution of the sheath suggests that the sheath is composed primarily of fibrin and that flap action of the sheath is the mechanism causing PWO." @default.

- W1000318598 abstract "Abstract This work presents the results of the fit of three bivariate models to twelve years of significant wave height and mean zero-crossing period data of swell, wind sea components, and combined sea states from Australia. The Conditional Modelling Approach defines the joint distribution from a marginal distribution of significant wave height and a set of distributions of mean zero-crossing period conditional on significant wave height. The second model fits the Plackett model to the data, and the last one applies the Box–Cox transformations to the data with the aim of making it approximately normal to fit a bivariate normal distribution to the transformed data. The conditional model with a lognormal distribution for the significant wave height and lognormal distributions for the zero-crossing period gave the best fit for the total sea states and for the wind component. In case of the swell component the conditional model with a Weibull distribution to the significant wave height and a lognormal distribution to the mean zero-crossing period gave a relatively close fit to the data." @default.

Whilst the first supported catalysts involved ion-exchange resins in which a cationic metal complex ion was linked electrostatically to the support, the majority of supported metal complex catalysts involve covalent bonds between the metal and the support. Accordingly, after a brief look at ion-exchange based catalysts, this chapter will consider the coordination of metal complexes by functionalised supports, then the polymerisation of functionalised monomers, before examining the reactions between organometallic and metal-carbonyl complexes with metal oxide supports. The chapter concludes with a brief consideration of supported Ziegler-Natta catalysts, surface supported metal salts and finally complexes formed by transition metal oxides with main Group metal oxides." @default.
- W1000320539 abstract "Significant progress has been achieved in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) by the introduction of modern chemotherapeutic strategies [1]. However, disease relapse following successful remission induction still poses a major clinical challenge. The quantity and kinetic behavior of residual leukemic cells remains largely enigmatic due to the limitation of most currently available techniques to identify less than 1%–5% neoplastic cells in the population being examined [2]. The use of double-color immunofluorescence has markedly improved the sensitivity with which persisting disease can be detected in distinct leukemias characterized by phenotypic features that are extremely rare or absent on normal hematopoietic counterparts [3]. More recently the development of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) strategies has opened a new era in the analysis of minimal residual disease by allowing the identification of neoplastic cells at a 10−4 to 10−6 level [4]. In the following we will summarize our experience with the application of PCR techniques in monitoring ALL patients during the course of the disease." @default.
- W1000321808 abstract "In 1999, the U.S. Geological Survey began a study of pH trends in the Yampa River from near its headwaters to its mouth. The study was prompted by an apparent historical increase in measured pH at the Yampa River near Maybell, from an average of about 7.6 in the 1950's and 1960's to about 8.3 in the 1980's and 1990's. If real, further increase could cause more frequent exceedances of the Colorado water-quality standard of 9.0 and adversely affect aquatic life in the Yampa River Basin, including Dinosaur National Monument. The principal conclusion of this study is that this apparent historical increase in measured pH was caused mostly by changes in measurement protocol. Synoptic sampling during August 16-19, 1999, a period of relatively warm weather and base flow, showed that late afternoon pH of the Yampa River ranged from 8.46 to 9.20. The largest pH (9.20) exceeded the Colorado water-quality standard and was measured at Yampa River above Elk River, about 1.8 miles downstream from the Steamboat Springs Regional Waste Water Treatment Plant outfall, where nutrient enrichment caused photosynthesis by algae to dominate. Here, the dissolved oxygen concentration was 161 percent of saturation and carbon dioxide (CO2 was at 26 percent of saturation. At Yampa River downstream from a diversion near Hayden, 16.3 miles downstream, the effects of photosynthesis were still dominant, though attenuated by reaeration and dilution with freshwater from the Elk River. About 37.2 miles farther downstream, at Yampa River below Craig, which is about 6.2 miles downstream from the Craig Waste Water Treatment Plant, the effects of photosynthesis increased slightly, and pH rose to 8.80. Respiration plus oxidation of organic matter became dominant at Yampa River at Deerlodge Park in Dinosaur National Monument, where pH was 8.51, dissolved oxygen concentration was at 109 percent of saturation, and CO2 was at 189 percent of saturation. Respiration plus oxidation of organic matter, though diminished, apparently extended to the mouth of the Yampa River. Diurnal measurements on the Yampa River during August 23-26, 1999, show that the effects of photosynthesis and respiration plus oxidation of organic matter decreased downstream with distance from the developed urban area in the eastern part of the basin. Larger night-time values of pH in Dinosaur National Monument at Deerlodge Park and at the mouth of the Yampa River indicate that source waters varied with respect to capacity for respiration plus oxidation and photo-synthesis, that photosynthesis was minor, and that pH was largely controlled by respiration plus oxidation of organic matter. Synoptic sampling was repeated during March 13-16, 2000, when discharge was larger in response to late-winter melting of snow and ice at lower altitudes in the basin. Concentrations of nitrite plus nitrate were about 9 times greater in the Yampa River during March 2000 than during August 1999, and the largest increase (greater than 1,200 percent) was at Yampa River below Craig. At and downstream from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, pH at Yampa River sites averaged 8.85 during synoptic sampling in March 2000 compared to 8.70 in August 1999, with the partial pressure of carbon dioxide gas (PCO2) averaging 67 percent of saturation (compared to 99 percent during August 1999). The apparently larger effects of photosynthesis on pH and dissolved oxygen concentrations during March 2000 compared to August 1999 probably were caused by (1) slower rates of exchange of CO2 into and dissolved oxygen out of the river because of colder and deeper water and (2) slower rates of CO2 production and oxygen consumption resulting from slower rates of respiration by organisms and from slower rates of aerobic decomposition of organic matter in the colder river water and streambed sediment. Hypothetical thermodynamic simulations were done for samples collected in the lower Yampa River Basin to simulate the same amount of photosynthesis th" @default.

- W1000323284 abstract "On 30 May 2013, a forest fire occurred in Izmir, Turkey causing damage to both forest and fruit trees within the region. In this research, pre- and post-fire SPOT-6 images obtained on 30 April 2013 and 31 May 2013 were used to identify the extent of forest fire within the region. SPOT-6 images of the study region were orthorectified and classified using pixel and object-based classification (OBC) algorithms to accurately delineate the boundaries of burned areas. The present results show that for OBC using only normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) thresholds is not sufficient enough to map the burn scars; however, creating a new and simple rule set that included mean brightness values of near infrared and red channels in addition to mean NDVI values of segments considerably improved the accuracy of classification. According to the accuracy assessment results, the burned area was mapped with a 0.9322 kappa value in OBC, while a 0.7433 kappa value was observed in pixel-based classification. Lastly, classification results were integrated with the forest management map to determine the effected forest types after the fire to be used by the National Forest Directorate for their operational activities to effectively manage the fire, response and recovery processes." @default.

When Ris a primary aliphatic alkyl group the metal alkoxides are usually polymers [M(OR)xln;. It is believed that the formation of these coordination polymers is caused by the tendency of the metal to expand its coordination number with oxygen by means of alkoxide bridges. An interesting feature of these coordination polymers is their low degrees of polymerization. An attempt is made to rationalize these low degrees of polymerization in terms of a structural theory involving a knowledge of the stereochemistry of the metal M. It appears that the alkoxide polymers achieve their small sizes by assuming the maximum number of alkoxide bridges between adjacent metals in the polymer." @default.

Increased concentration of carbon dioxide is expected to have a rather small effect on saltmarsh vegetation and a negligible effect on the functioning of the Wadden Sea ecosystem. Rates of sealevel rise of 60 and 85 cm per century are not expected to have a major impact on the geomorphology of tidal basins because of increased sedimentation. The saltmarsh accretion may also be able to keep pace with rates of sealevel rise of this magnitude, if erosion at the seaward edge is controlled. Shorebird population sizes, which appear related to the area of tidal flats in their winter quarters, are not expected to decline because of change in the area of tidal flats in the Wadden Sea. As reproduction of several species of bivalve shellfish may be impaired by higher winter temperatures, recruitment of these species may strongly decrease and this may affect shorebird populations. Model calculations, however, do not show a major effect of higher winter temperatures on ecosystem functioning." @default.

Mammalian cardiolipin biosynthesis has been shown to occur in rat liver mitochondria by phosphatidyl transfer from CDPdiglyceride to phosphatidylglycerol with the formation of cytidine monophosphate (CMP) in a reaction, which requires a divalent cation, such as Mg 2+ , Mn 2+ , or Co 2+ . The mammalian reaction mechanism differs from bacterial cardiolipin synthesis where two phosphatidylglycerols are converted to cardiolipin with the liberation of glycerol, whereas in yeast mitochondria the synthesis seems to follow the mammalian scheme. The chapter describes methodology for measuring the activity of cardiolipin synthase in mammalian mitochondria including preparation of radiolabeled substrates and detail assay methods. It also provides information regarding solubilization of the enzyme." @default.
- W1000327092 abstract "In this presentation we explore a recently introduced high order discontinuous Galerkin method for two dimensional incompressible flow in vorticity streamfunction formulation [8]. In this method, the momentum equation is treated explicitly, utilizing the efficiency of the discontinuous Galerkin method. The streamfunction is obtained by a standard Poisson solver using continuous finite elements. There is a natural matching between these two finite element spaces, since the normal component of the velocity field is continuous across element boundaries. This allows for a correct upwinding gluing in the discontinuous Galerkin framework, while still maintaining total energy conservation with no numerical dissipation and total enstrophy stability. The method is suitable for inviscid or high Reynolds number flows. In our previous work, optimal error estimates are proven and verified by numerical experiments. In this presentation we present one numerical example, the shear layer problem, in detail and from different angles to illustrate the resolution performance of the method.KeywordsDiscontinuous Galerkin MethodFinite Element SpaceOptimal Error EstimateContinuous Finite ElementTotal Energy ConservationThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. - W10003273 abstract "Issues of attention “bear on every area of cognitive science” (Allport, 1989, p. 631). Attention, however, is not a unitary construct; many mechanisms have been proposed to explain how itaffects different aspects of behavior and learning. Attentional mechanisms have been invoked toexplain such diverse phenomena in second language acquisition (SLA) as variation in the accuracy, fluency and complexity of second language (L2) use in different social environments, and theeffects of pedagogic task demands on learners’ spoken and written performance in experimentaland classroom language learning settings. Availability of attentional resources has also been arguedto predict the extent to which instructional conditions manipulating the focus of learners’attention affect the quality of perception, and, as a consequence, memory for targeted aspects ofinput. Explaining variational phenomena implicates mechanisms of attention which are used tocontrol action while using the L2. Explaining perceptual, learning, and memory phenomenaimplicates mechanisms of attention which are used to select (or inhibit) and mentally rehearseinformation in the L2 input. These two broad classes of attentional mechanisms interact to affectSLA in ways that researchers have explored in both experimental and classroom settings." @default.
- W100032761 abstract "Telerehabilitation, which is the provision of rehabilitation services at a distance, hasbeen proposed as a service delivery model with the potential to address some of the issues ofequitable access and quality of care currently facing the discipline of rehabilitation. Onerehabilitation discipline which is well suited to telerehabilitation is speech-languagepathology. However, a paucity of research into the delivery of speech-language pathologyservices via telerehabilitation has limited the implementation of this mode of service delivery. In an attempt to add empirical data to the body of research and move towards thedevelopment of evidence-based guidelines for the practice of telerehabilitation in speechlanguagepathology, this series of studies aimed to determine the validity and reliability of theassessment of acquired neurogenic communication disorders in adults via telerehabilitationmethods.A total of 86 adults with an acquired neurogenic communication disorder participatedin this research. Participants were grouped according to their dominant communicationdisorder resulting in four study cohorts, dysarthria (n = 19 and 24), aphasia (n = 32) andapraxia of speech (n = 11). A series of studies investigated the validity and reliability oftelerehabilitation assessment of each cohort, in comparison to traditional face-to-faceassessment. Participants were assessed using standardised and/or informal assessment toolscommonly used in speech-language pathology clinics. A custom-built telerehabilitationsystem utilizing low bandwidth Internet Protocol (IP) connections was used during thetelerehabilitation assessments. This bandwidth was chosen as it is consistent with theminimum bandwidth connection available in Queensland Health facilities, including those inregional and remote areas.Overall, the findings presented in this thesis served to establish the validity andreliability of assessing acquired neurogenic communication disorders in adults viatelerehabilitation. The results provide evidence that the use of standardised and informalassessment tools in a telerehabilitation environment allow for the accurate description ofaphasia and apraxia of speech in adults. While high levels of agreement for the assessment ofdysarthria were also established, the low agreement between the speech-language pathologists(SLPs) for the diagnosis of type of dysarthria was unexpected. It was considered that thisdiscrepancy was a result of differences between the SLPs rather than an effect of thetelerehabilitation assessment. Reliability within the telerehabilitation assessment environmentwas established for dysarthria and aphasia; however, reliability was not confirmed for apraxiaof speech due to restricted sample size, highlighting the need for further research within thispopulation.Previous research had suggested that the severity of the presenting communicationdisorder may have implications for telerehabilitation assessment in speech pathology. Suchconcerns regarding the effects of severity of communication disorder upon the accuracy of thetelerehabilitation assessment were resolved in the case of severe aphasia. However, furtherresearch into the effects of severe apraxia of speech upon the ability to use telerehabilitationassessment methods was recommended.Continued research to firmly establish the validity and reliability of assessing acquiredneurogenic communication disorders via telerehabilitation, with the goal of developingevidence-based guidelines for the use of telerehabilitation in speech pathology was recognisedas an imperative direction for future research. Furthermore, the potential for telerehabilitationmethods to expand and inform traditional rehabilitation research and practices was suggested." @default.

This network is populated with social Web services. Compared to regular Web services, social Web services establish and maintain networks of contacts, count on their (privileged) contacts when needed, etc. These criteria are membershipCost, demandLevel, satisfactionLevel, and retentionLevel, and assist a social Web service in selecting the best social network in which it will sign up. Similar criteria have been defined in the past with emphasis on the security perspective of a social network. A set of simulations conducted over an in-house built JAVA testbed, are also presented in the paper with focus on analyzing three aspects: profit of network, quality of network, and profit versus quality of network." @default.
- W100032833 abstract "To assess the long-term variance of several parameters of left ventricular performance, we evaluated maximum rate of pressure development (dP/dtmax), ejection fraction, mean velocity of circumferential fiber shortening (VCF), the slope and volume-axis intercept of the end-systolic pressure-volume (PES-VES) relation, the stroke-work end-diastolic volume (SW-EDV) relation, and the dP/dtmax-EDV relation in six chronically instrumented dogs. Each dog was studied five times over a period of 3 wk in the conscious autonomically intact state, after autonomic blockade, and after administration of anesthesia. For each index under each set of testing conditions, a coefficient of variation was determined, defined as (SD/mean) x 100, and expressed as a percent. In conscious autonomically intact dogs, a low day-to-day variance was present in dP/dtmax (6.4%), ejection fraction (6.8%), mean VCF (6.5%), and the slope and volume intercept of the SW-EDV relation (7.2 and 6.2%), whereas higher variance was seen in the slope and intercept of the PES-VES relation (18.1 and 36.1%). The highest variance was present in parameters of the dP/dtmax-EDV relation. Thus dP/dtmax, ejection fraction, and the slope and volume intercept of the SW-EDV relation may be the most reliable indexes for long-term evaluation of left ventricular performance." @default.

- W1000328570 abstract "The structure of polymers in the solid state, as revealed by X-rays, is usually amorphous, though in some cases it is partially crystalline. The arrangement of molecules in the amorphous region is irregular, just as in the liquid states of low molecular-weight substances. The chapter discusses that amorphous polymers usually flow, when left alone under an external force for a sufficiently long time. As the arrangement of molecules in the amorphous state is not regular, the magnitude of the Van der Waals force among molecules varies from place to place. The slightest force can cause the weak part to flow. The arrangement of the structural units along this chain direction is just as in crystals. The force that holds the structural units together is of the nature of homopolar chemical binding and is much stronger than the Van der Waals force among different molecules. The chapter develops theory of the conformation of flexible polymers, especially about the effect of the internal rotation and gives a survey of the theories of elasticity and visco-elasticity that arise from the long-range molecular motion of the backbone chain. It provides the molecular interpretation of various dispersion and absorption phenomena in mechanical, di-electrical, or nuclear magnetic properties. Finally, it discusses the glass transition to elucidate the mechanism of the freezing of molecular motion." @default.

The couplings between surfaces are effective along the intersections of pairs of surfaces in the two-dimensional coordinate space. Special situations occur in the reac- tion coordinate space when three snrfaces are nearly degenerate. The in- terplay between the sequential electron transfer processes and the superex- change process is analysed for different: reorganization energies, electronic coupling, free energies for the electron transfer, dephasing rates, and temper- ature. The time dependent contribution of the superexchange process to the charge separation in the triad system is analysed using the time dependent rate functions. It is shown that in the nonadiabatic limit of electron transfer the influence of the electronic dephasing processes for low barrier reactions can be accounted for by appropriate changes in the reorganization energies. The present model is compared with the experimental results concerning the charge separation in the bacterial photosynthetic reaction centers." @default.

This means accepting a negatively sloped short-run Phillips curve that would allow the exploitation of the celebratred trade-off between inflation and unemployment. This paper gives a qualitative characterization of the Spanish short-run Phillips curve. We argue that this curve is currently vertical and the apparent trade-off shown by the data is misleading, as it is caused by an increase in the equilibrium rate of unemployment. Consequently, the effects of an expansionary demand policy would mainly go into prices and the reduction of unemployment would be small." @default.

Forbidden decays make up approximately 30% of all fission product decays so their possible impact on the neutrino flux should not be neglected. Because of an incomplete knowledge of the requisite nuclear structure it is not possible to incorporate the forbidden decays in an exact fashion thus a variety of scenarios are investigated. It appears that including first forbidden decays measurably modifies the anti-neutrino spectrum, and the uncertainty on the neutrino flux should be expanded beyond 4%." @default.

However, the impact of Mo addition on the corrosion resistance was not fully understood. In this work, Zr-0.4Fe-1.0Cr-xMo (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, mass fraction, %) alloys with addition of different Mo contents were prepared by vacuum arc melting method and their corrosion resistance in 500 , 10.3 MPa steam was investigated. Compared with Zr-4, N18 and M5 alloys, the corrosion rate of Zr-0.4Fe-1.0Cr-xMo alloys was much lower, which was attributed to the large numbers of fine second phase particles in the matrix. Addition of Mo improved the evolution of the oxide film during growth and resulted in the degradation of corrosion resistance. The growth of the oxides remained cubic kinetics in the whole corrosion period (2000 h) for the Mo free alloy, whereas changed from cubic to linear kinetics after a corrosion time of 500—1000 h for the Mo containing alloys." @default.

Patients and Methods This was a retrospective population-based cohort study focused on Olmsted County, Minnesota. The RA cohort consisted of patients 18 years and older who first fulfilled 1987 American College of Rheumatology criteria for RA in the 1980 to 2007 period, and was compared with a cohort of similar age, sex, and calendar year without RA. Data on all hospitalizations were retrieved electronically for the 1987 to 2012 period. Analyses used person-year methods and rate ratios (RRs) comparing patients with and without RA. Results The 799 patients with RA experienced 2968 hospitalizations, and the 797 patients without RA experienced 2069 hospitalizations. Patients with RA were hospitalized at a greater rate than were patients without RA (RR, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.42-1.59). This increased rate of hospitalization was found in both sexes, all age groups, all calendar years studied, and throughout disease duration. Men with RA were hospitalized for depression at a greater rate than were men without RA (RR, 7.16; 95% CI, 2.78-30.67). Patients with RA were hospitalized at a greater rate for diabetes mellitus than were subjects without RA (RR, 2.45; 95% CI, 1.34-4.89). In patients with RA, the indicators of disease severity (eg, seropositivity, erosions, and nodules) in the first year after RA incidence were associated with higher rates of hospitalization. Conclusion Patients with RA were hospitalized for all causes at a greater rate than were patients without RA. Increased rates of hospitalization were true for several disease categories and patient subgroups." @default.

Stimulant medication is likely to help individuals with ADHD to make more effective use of psychological intervention. The chapter reviews the specific problems individuals with ADHD face in adulthood and the way psychological therapy may help people with these problems. The problems are not restricted to individuals with symptomatic ADHD. ADHD adults in partial remission, as well as those in total remission, may also experience relative difficulty in adaptive functioning. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is proposed as the most appropriate therapy for individuals with ADHD in adulthood. Specific CBT interventions are outlined for the development of time management and organizational skills; planning and problem-solving skills; impulse control; interpersonal skills; and the treatment of anger, anxiety, and depression. Contextual factors influence whether an individual will benefit most from individual, group, and family work. This chapter concludes that the goals are consistent with treatment model of environmental interventions to reduce the consequences of symptoms combined with strategies to reduce the symptoms." @default.

It addresses Heidegger's appropriation of Aristotle's account of the two basic forms of pathos, namely, the tranquil mood of being-composed and the fearful mood of being-decomposed. The chapter shows how this pathology of truth de-poses one. This pathology of truth reflects how Dasein finds itself oriented toward its ownmost possibility, its possibility-to-be. It is nothing other than openness to this possibility. Dasein preserves its possibility-to-be as a possibility of being-composed by hedone and the mood of tranquility. Yet this possibility of becoming composed is always openness to becoming de-composed. Pathos embodies this movement so that Dasein in becoming-what-it-is finds itself posed with the possibility of becoming-what-it-is not. Dasein only encounters beings by first being-out-towards its nullity or absence as the most distinctive possibility of its finite existence." @default.

- W100033431 abstract "ABSTRACT: One hundred and fifty women who had abortions in Belarus (former Soviet republic) were interviewed regarding reproductive history, decision-making and psychological outcomes. Positive and negative responses (including PTSD, guilt, grief, depression, anxiety/panic and emotional numbness) were assessed during the interview with the Impact of Events-R Scale to objectively measure aspects of PTSD. It was hypothesized that a portion of the sample would evidence PTSD with recognition of life, attachment, time, number of weeks of pregnancy, coercion, supported decision-making, wantedness, and age all predictive of negative responses. Forty-six percent of the sample suffered PTSD the best predictors being recognition of the life of the fetus, attachment, time since the abortion, and number of weeks of pregnancy. INTRODUCTION Abortion in the former Soviet Union (FSU) and in Eastern Europe is extremely prevalent, even now utilized in many regions as a primary form of birth control. The psychological and health tolls of the use of abortion in this manner have never been closely examined. Indeed it is a situation of absence of freedom of choice for women, but in the reverse of what is often such a cause for concern in the United States. Women use abortion in the FSU and Eastern Europe (often against their principles and desires) due to economic pressures, housing shortages, job conditions, the need for severely limited family size, and lack of availability and information about modern contraceptives. The concept of abortion as a psychological stressor capable of causing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been described in the literature pertaining to American samples, but has only recently been examined in regard to former Soviet Union samples (Rue & Speckhard, 1996; Remennick & Segal, 2001; Mufel, 2000). Abortion turning from coping mechanism into posttraumatic stressor causing PTSD along the lines of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (APA, 1994) has been described in clinical and research writings by many authors (Bagarozzi, 1994; Barnard, 1990; Butterfield, 1988; Forst, 1992; Ney, 1982; Speckhard, 1987). When acting as a traumatic stressor, abortion is perceived as involving the death of a human being or a threat to bodily integrity. Flashbacks, strategies of avoidance and hyperarousal ensue, and when these combine to interfere significantly with life functions, causing impairment for duration of longer than 1 month, PTSD is diagnosed (Speckhard & Rue, 1992). Chronic and delayed PTSD reactions to abortion have also been described in the literature. This study set out to examine the unique psychosocial stressors reproductive conditions in the former Soviet Union create for women. One hundred and fifty anonymous, semi-structured interviews were completed in Belarus, a former soviet republic (in urban and non-urban areas). These interviews included a reproductive and sexual history, questions about contraceptive knowledge and use, emotional and psychological responses to abortion, including a measure of posttraumatic stress symptoms. The authors were interested to learn, among other things, if abortion in a context of complete availability, with extensive social acceptance and little political controversy (i.e. absence of protestors), would still act as a traumatic stressor. If so, we were interested to learn if the presentation of abortion-related PTSD would be similar to or differ from that described in American samples. Measures similar to those used in American studies of abortion acting as a traumatic stressor (i.e. Impact of Events-R Scale) were used making cross-cultural comparisons possible (Weiss & Marmar, 1995). This paper describes the results of the study in regard to post abortion trauma. METHOD Sample and Procedures One hundred and fifty women were recruited for anonymous semistructured interviews about their reproductive histories, experience with abortion and present psychological state. …" @default.

It is found in past research that odors have the ability to evoke memories, events and emotions among customers. However, through the literature review, it has been noticed that the use of gender-congruent and incongruent ambient scents has received very little attention among researchers. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine whether there exists a cause-and-effects on consumer purchasing behavior and perceived quality using a gender-congruent and incongruent ambient scent in three fashion stores (one masculine, two feminine) located in a middle-sized town in Sweden. The study relies on the theoretical foundation of atmospherics and sense marketing, together with the S-O-R (Stimulus-Organism-Response) paradigm implemented in the Mehrabian-Russell model, with a modification for this specific study. The data was collected in three fashion stores during 12 days with 522 participants. The results of the study indicated that it is possible to affect male consumer’s purchasing behavior by emitting a gender-congruent ambient scent in the store atmosphere. Even more interesting, it seems that male consumers are even more affected by the gender-incongruent ambient scent, leading to a noticeable increase of money spent in store. Meanwhile, it was discovered that the gender-congruent and incongruent ambient scent showed effect on consumer’s quality perception of store and product quality, however the results were different depending on gender." @default.

- W100033594 abstract "We report seven children from three families who had a set of common clinical features suggestive of Larsen-like syndrome, including unusual facies, bilateral dislocations of the knees and elbows, club foot, and short stature. All of the patients originated from the island of La Réunion in the Indian Ocean. The occurrence of several affected sibs in these families and the large number of consanguineous marriages on this island are consistent with autosomal recessive inheritance of the disease. Based on this hypothesis, the pedigrees were used for linkage analysis in a candidate gene assay. Lod score calculations in a pairwise study with four different fibrillar collagen genes, COL1A1, COL1A2, COL3A1, and COL5A2, allowed us to exclude these genes as the mutant loci. Supporting this, electrophoretic analysis of collagens derived from fibroblast cultures failed to show defective molecules. We conclude that this syndrome is not a collagen disorder." @default.

- W1000337120 abstract "This chapter focuses on high-resolution, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) that uses ion exchange or ion-exchanging materials. “High performance” requires high resolution, high speed, and continuous detection. High speed and high resolution are achieved by the use of surface-functional exchangers and continuous detection of ionic species is accomplished through electrical conductivity. All ions conduct an electric current, and measurement of electrical conductivity is the obvious way to detect and measure ionic species as they emerge from the column. There are two ways to use electrical conductivity to detect ionic species in chromatography: (1) one is to measure the conductivity of the effluent and look for changes, keeping the background conductivity as low as possible by using dilute eluents, and choosing the eluents to give maximum conductivity changes. This method is called “nonsuppressed or single-column ion chromatography.” (2) The other way is to remove selectively the excess eluent from the solution as it leaves the column, and then measure the conductivity. This method is called “suppressed ion chromatography.” The first method is simpler and requires less equipment whereas the second promises greater sensitivity." @default.

Managers are allowed to falsely report their costs to owners and rivals. Under such circumstances, if owners want to achieve information sharing they must use managerial contracts that implement truthful cost reporting by managers as a dominant strategy. I show that, contrary to the classical result, without the inclusion of message-dependent payments in managerial contracts there will be no information sharing. On the other hand, with the inclusion of such publicly observable payments and credible ex-ante commitment by owners not to modify these payments, there will be perfect information sharing without the need for third parties. - W1000337963 abstract "The aim of this paper is presentation of results of chemical composition of tap water in selected localities on South Podlasie Lowland. Samples of water were taken from water treatment station and taps situated in various parts of Lukow, Sokolow Podlaski and selected localities in Lochow, Wierzbno and Mokobody commune. Quarterly investigations covered analysis of water reaction (pH) by potentiometric method, electrical conductivity (EC) by electrochemical method and total concentration of 26 elements by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). It was found that untreated waters being the source of tap water in selected localities on South Podlasie Lowland contained excessive iron and manganese amounts, that were efficiently removed during the treatment. Concentration of analyzed elements in treated water did not exceed the permissible limits and quality of analyzed tap water changed a little during its transport due to the secondary contamination." @default.
- W100033804 abstract "This dissertation presents a new technique, based on dynamically coupled particle systems, for creating and manipulating complex three dimensional shapes in a fluid like manner. The most novel feature of this approach to shape representation is the use of self organizing primitive elements. In the simplest case, these primitive elements, or particles, each posses state variables of position and mass, and the system of elements interact through pairwise potential energy functions. More complex systems include additional state variables combined with simple heuristics to create application specific behavior. The ability of these systems to self organize provides a representation technique which exhibits dynamically changing structure, an attribute not found in popular spline and polygonally based representations. To illustrate the usefulness of this approach it is applied to the following problems: free form shape modeling, computer assisted animation, and surface reconstruction. For free-form modeling the approach supports smoothness constraints similar to those inherent in the deformation energies of popular, elastic surface models. Unlike spline patches or parameterized surface models, the model does not attempt to enforce analytical continuity conditions, such as tangent or curvature continuity over the surface. Applied to computer assisted animation the approach computes the movement and deformation of models mimicking, at a rudimentary level, the physical behavior of flexible solids and fluids. Applied to surface reconstruction, these systems can infer surface structure from sparse data sets, without a prior knowledge of the surface structure or the topological genus. In summary, dynamically coupled particle systems provide an useful alternative to traditional shape representation and manipulation techniques." @default.

This chapter treats the characteristics of the elements involved in the frequency-determining section. Academically and practically, the parallel LC arrangement known as a “tank” circuit is the most important element to become familiar with. In its simplest and most frequently encountered form, it is made up of a single inductor and a single capacitor. There are different losses predominate under different situations. In general, the higher the frequency, the greater the radiation loss. Magnetic hysteresis is only of consequence when a ferromagnetic core is used such as powdered iron. The losses due to eddy currents are, in reality, brought about by transformer action in which the offending material constitutes a short circuited secondary." @default.

The unsuccessful results of English and Persian translation programs in Iran may originate from a number of sources such as the syllabus in use, trainees’ motivations and teaching approach among others. The present study is based on a quasi-experimental design to test the effect of customary English and Persian translation teaching while controlling a number of other influencing variables. Pearson’s Product Moment and Paired t-Test statistical procedures are used in analysis of the quantitative data. The result is congruent with some earlier qualitative research which recommends more tendencies to constructivist approaches in teaching English and Persian translation." @default.

In addition, the differences in the use of code mixing expressed by the male and female interviewees were also examined. The theory of types of code mixing by Kachru (1982) was used as the main theory of this research. In this study, the writer used qualitative-descriptive data. He chose two male and two female interviewees in four interview articles published in Popular magazine. Then he analyzed the answers of the interviewees to find out the answers of the research questions. The result of the analysis showed that the interviewees in the magazine used three types of code mixing namely unit insertion, unit hybridization, and sentence insertion. There were two types of code mixing that they did not use namely idiom/collocation and reduplication. It was also found that male and female used similar of code mixing with no significant differences. This implied that the aspect of gender did not influence the occurrence of code mixing." @default.

The transition quadrupole moments, derived from the lifetimes, are constant with an average value of Q(t) = 18.6 b down to the bottom of the band where it decays to the normal states. Among these modes, bus transportation continues to be the top choice for intercity travelers in Malaysia. Bus offers more flexibility compared to the other transport modes. Due to its relatively cheaper fare as compared to the air transport, bus is more affordable to those with low income. However, bus transport service today is starting to face higher competition from rail and air transport due to their attractive factors. The hugechallenge faced by intercity bus transport in Malaysia is the management of its services. The intercity bus transport does not fall under one management; unlike rail transport which is managed under Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB), or air transport which is managed under Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). - W1000341327 abstract "This chapter discusses the detection-related slow potentials and time of day. The results show that in threshold detection task the relationship between decision confidence and the late positive component (LPC) is not significantly affected by the time of day at which the task is performed. The relationship between the LPC and the time of day variable, however, appears puzzling in view of the significant circadian variation of the mean LPC values only. Apparently, the observed variations of the LPC are - to different degrees - influenced by two independently acting factors: a task-specific, decision-related factor and a non-specific state factor. The latter probably can be equated with the tonic level of alertness, fluctuating circadianly, as also evidenced in other physiological indices such as the mean total “cerebral electrical output” and mean total plasma cortisol levels. Further experimentation is needed to investigate whether there is a common factor underlying the time dependency of the early contingent negative variation (CNV) and the LPC. Both slow potentials are thought to be of an endogenous nature and to reflect higher cognitive functions. This suggests the existence of a general, non-specific circadian modulation of some aspects of cognitive processing." @default.

The adoption of review, therefore, is understood to be a potentially severe qualification to democratic government. It was this understanding that once drove American progressives such as Theodore Roosevelt to endorse judicial recall that would have allowed the people to rule by overriding constitutional doctrine;' that led Canada to include notwithstanding clause in its Charter, shielding legislation from nullification;2 and that now spurs some to urge remaining Westminster systems to resist pressures to curb parliamentary sovereignty with review. But how warranted is this assumption? Creative and persistent legislators will try to reanimate these statutory corpses, and it is an open question whether disapproval really lays issue to rest. - W1000345249 abstract "This article reviews a new method to extract and compute coherent structures of turbulent flows, called coherent vortex simulation (CVS). It is based on the orthogonal wavelet decomposition of the vorticity field, which can be highly compressed applying wavelet filters. Here, we introduce in detail an iterative algorithm for the wavelet filtering and show results for the analysis of artificial and turbulent flow fields. Numerical simulations using CVS are performed for turbulent flows in two and three dimensions; i.e., the integration of the Navier—Stokes equations is carried out in a compressed adaptive basis. In comparison to direct numerical simulation results, we find that the nonlinear dynamics of the flow are well retained with CVS, though most of the modes are discarded. CVS appears promising as an efficient method for the simulation of turbulent flows at high Reynolds number." @default.

Low-porosity grafts with hydraulic permeability of 2.7 +/- 0.4 ml/min per square centimeter and medium-porosity grafts with hydraulic permeability of 39 +/- 8 ml/min per square centimeter displayed good handling properties and suturability. Twelve straight low-porosity grafts, 17 straight medium-porosity grafts (1.5 to 2.0 cm in length), and one loop medium-porosity graft (10 cm in length) were implanted by the same surgeon end to end in the infrarenal aorta of 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats. Three months after implantation, patency was 8% for low-porosity grafts (1/12) and 76% for straight medium-porosity grafts (13/17). The loop medium-porosity graft was also patent. The sole patent low-porosity graft showed neointimal hyperplasia and incomplete endothelialization. All but one of the patent straight medium-porosity grafts showed a glistening and transparent neointima with complete endothelialization and no anastomotic hyperplasia. The loop medium-porosity graft displayed endothelialization from each anastomosis and in many islands in the middle portion of the graft, totalling 47% of the luminal surface by morphometric analysis. Thick mural thrombus, anastomotic hyperplasia, or aneurysm formation were not observed in any patent medium-porosity graft. This study investigates a semi-fragile watermarking scheme for CAPD models represented by parametric solids, which offers a solution to the problem of topology authentication. We first analyze the geometrical and topological structures of CAPD models. Then, we propose an effective semi-fragile watermarking method for topology authentication, which is based on Laplacian coordinates and quantization index modulation (QIM), against several attacks. We compute the custom Laplacian coordinate vector for each marked connection point according to the topological relation among joint plant components. The topology-based watermark for each marked connection point is generated from selected attributes of its joint plant component. Watermarks are inserted into the coordinates of marked connection points by adjusting the lengths of their Laplacian coordinate vectors. Both experimental results and theoretical analysis demonstrate that our approach can not only detect and locate malicious topology attacks, such as component modification and joint ends modification, but is also robust against various non-malicious attacks, such as similarity transformations and level-of-detail (LOD). ► We propose a watermarking scheme for topology authentication of CAPD models. ► Topological information among plant components is exploited to generate watermarks. ► Watermark bits are embedded into a subset of the model's connection points. ► The scheme is semi-fragile and blind. ► It is robust against similarity transformations and simplification." @default.
- W1000347131 abstract "This chapter presents an overview of multimedia authoring considering the structuring of the temporal and spatial information that define a presentation. There are many ways to do this: by writing a conventional program that accesses the media objects from the computer's file system or by providing a declarative specification of the presentation one wishes to create. The programming-based approach often leads to highly interactive presentations that can be fine-timed to create dramatic effects. The development of declarative specifications must anticipate the features authors require for constructing a presentation. These include basic timing and synchronization relationships between objects. Another aspect of a presentation design to be considered is the spatial placement of objects relative to each other during the presentation. The method used to define such placement can be based on absolute positioning of objects or on a constraint model, in which one defines relationships among objects that must hold during the time these objects are active. The specification of the spatial and temporal relationships within a presentation should be viewed in terms of the overall activation sequencing of a presentation." @default.
- W100034739 abstract "The Supreme Court's decision in Verizon Communications Inc. v. Law Offices of Curtis V. Trinko, LLP, 540 U.S. 398 (2004), was unanimous and the principal opinion was very short. Moreover, the opinion dealt with a very limited aspect of a small and highly regulated sector of the economy. Nevertheless, the opinion may have a more general impact on Section 2 jurisprudence relating to the monopolist's so-called duty-to-deal. The basic argument in the paper is that Trinko exposed some serious problems that surround any such duty. While the opinion did not reach a definitive conclusion on how the doctrine should be reformulated (or even whether it should be reformulated at all) it planted the seed for a complete overhaul. When Trinko is taken to its logical conclusion, it may be that the duty-to-deal has either been eliminated entirely or has been confined to a very tiny pocket of exceptional situations. The key to the analysis is understanding the terms on which any duty to deal would take place. If the monopolist is not required to sacrifice profits in conforming to its duty, a court is placed in the awkward position of determining whether the price offered by the monopolist is too high to be a legitimate profit-maximizing price. It is questionable whether the courts have the institutional capacity to deal with these few pathological and therefore we may expect to see the duty eliminated altogether." @default.
