- ef9ac5ea-ac53-4a8b-b9b1-fabbbd148c3c definition "The imaging radiometer on the Meteosat Operational Programme (MOP) series of satellites operated in a visible, infrared, and water vapor band providing full-disc Earth images in 25 minutes followed by a 5 minute retrace and stabilization period. The imager provided day/night cloudcover data and visible-infrared radiances for meteorological applications and weather forecasting. The optical system consisted of a moveable Ritchey-Cretien 40 cm primary aperature, 365 cm focal length telescope mounted on two flexible plate pivots attached to a step motor by a high-precision jack screw via a gear box. The telescope is stepped 0.125 milliradians every 100 rpm satellite rotation so that the Earth's surface is scanned at 5 km intervals, south to north, covering a total angular distance of 18 degrees. Each infrared (IR) image consists of 2500 lines (each 2500 pixels). The visible detectors provide 5000-line images corresponding to a resolution of 2.5 km. The visible silicon photodiode detectors cover 0.4 - 0.9 microns, the thermal infrared HgCdTe detector covers 10.5 - 12.5 microns, and the water vapor-infrared HgCdTe detector covers 5.7 - 7.1 microns.
