- W1004867815 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter presents a large part of the experimental phase diagram and thermodynamic data for the Ga–In–Sb and Hg–Cd–Te systems, along with calculated values for these data obtained from a simultaneous, quantitatively good, and thermodynamically self-consistent fit to the experimental data. There are three aspects of the chapter. (1) Reliable phase diagram and thermodynamic data are considered simultaneously. (2) The congruent melting of binary compounds introduces pinning points for any proposed liquid model. For instance, at the 1092°C melting point of CdTe(s), the enthalpy of the mixing of the 50 at.% liquid must equal the sum of the enthaIpy of the formation of CdTe(s) from its pure liquid elements and the enthalpy of fusion. (3) The basic liquidus equations used are not equivalent to the commonly used simplification of the equation in which the constant pressure heat capacity of CdTe(s) and of CdTe(l) would be assumed to be equal. Such an assumption introduces an error into the calculation of liquidus temperatures that can be significant." @default.
