- W1007195763 abstract "live in an age of ecological decline that is at a crisis level. Many of us feel helpless to deal with extent of crisis; some prefer to live in denial. If we allow ourselves to absorb reality of crisis, we can be overcome with feelings of despair, guilt and helplessness. If we are motivated to action for Earth, hope sometimes can be in short supply. We also live in a time of consumerism and materialism when people seem divorced from any significant connection to Earth. The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius is a good instrument to foster an experience of divine in Creation, while also dealing with reality and extent of ecological crisis. The Spiritual Exercises also prepare retreatant for hopefilled healing action for Earth. Many discussions about The Exercises and Creation are limited to a discussion of two contemplations, Principle and Foundation and Contemplation on Love. However, these contemplations are simply bookends of Exercises. The complete experience of Exercises can be focussed on experience of divine within Creation, enabling conversion and transformation for sake of Earth. The four-week dynamic itself is key to this experience. The members of Ecology Project of Jesuit Centre for Social Faith and Justice have developed and led ecology retreats based on The Spiritual Exercises. The Ecology Project is located on Jesuit property north of city of Guelph (Canada), which consists of a retreat house (Loyola House), an organic farm, wetlands and bush. In our effort to make real the greening of The we were aware that part of our task was articulation of our own lived experience of Exercises, shaped and nurtured by land and water on which we prayed. In this paper, I will briefly discuss Ignatius' understanding of Creation that is expressed in Exercises. The focus of my attention, however, will be way in which four-week dynamic can be used to foster a healing experience of Earth." @default.
