- W1008032089 abstract "This chapter presents the development of voltammetric microelectrode techniques that allow direct in situ measurement of catecholamines (CA) fluxes. The carbon-based microelectrodes used for in vivo voltammetry exhibit low residual current, wide anodic range, and sensitivity to compounds of interest. These useful characteristics derive from the interactions of CA and other molecules in solution with the carbon surface. The use of liquid chromatography for analysis of CA is a recent phenomenon owing to the previous lack of adequately sensitive detection methods. These analytical techniques allow accurate and sensitive determination of endogenous CA levels in biological tissue and fluids. They may be applied to the measurement of CA content, synthesis rate, secretion rate, and turnover rate in normal subjects and during behavioral and pharmacological manipulation. The information gained using these probes provides valuable insights into the physiological function of peripheral and central catecholamines." @default.
