- W1008201653 abstract "Publisher Summary The amacrine cell types differ in the locations of their cell bodies within the inner nuclear layer, or sometimes in the ganglion cell layer, and in the patterns of their dendrite arborizations within the inner plexiform layer. The different types of amacrine cell appear likely to be involved in specific relationships with specific ganglion cell types, in view of the often complementary patterns of organization of the dendrites of the two groups of cells. The basic morphological features of these amacrine cell types have been defined, in the case of the amacrine cells that appear to contain peptides by immunohistochemistry and in the case of the classical transmitters by autoradiographic localization of high affinity uptake systems, histochemical techniques and chemically-induced fluorescence. Poor resolution, particularly of those techniques involving autoradiographic localization of high affinity uptake systems, has often made it difficult to fully define cell morphologies. In only one case is it claimed that there is a good fit between an amacrine cell type defined in terms of its putative transmitter (substance P-like immunoreactivity) and a morphological amacrine cell type." @default.
