- W101418780 abstract "* Principal, Charles River Associates, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University. The author would like to thank Steven Salop, Mark Popofsky, Mark Cunningham, Tina Miller, and an anonymous reviewer for their comments on earlier versions of this article. The opinions expressed in this article are the author's alone, and do not necessarily reflect the views of either Charles River Associates or Carnegie Mellon University. 1 Neither the nor the of economics is a precisely defined term. As a general rule, however, Chicago School economists tend to be firm believers in the robustness of market models developed under assumptions of perfect competition. Members of the PostChicago School tend to be somewhat more skeptical of the strong implications of these models. As a result, PostChicago analyses pay greater attention to market imperfections, or real-world phenomena that cause empirical observations to deviate from theoretical predictions. They are thus also less likely to believe that all markets will necessarily selfcorrect. Instead, they investigate the characteristics of markets that appear to deviate from theoretical predictions, and propose legal or regulatory remedies if they appear necessary to counter the anomaly. For a discussion of the PostChicago approach to antitrust analysis, see Carl Shapiro, Aflermarkets and Consumer Welfare: Making Sense of Kodak, 63 Antitrust L.J. 483 (1995)." @default.
