- W1026847635 abstract "Publisher Summary The Internet with its billions of connections is an amazing electronic world of information and communication pathways. The Internet is one of the most universal and quickly adopted and adaptive technologies. The Internet continues to expand its reach into private, business, and public lives at an astounding pace. The Internet is not just a local phenomenon, but is global in its reach. The web offers an array of tools that provide individuals the opportunity to work and live better. In the workplace, one of the most ubiquitous tools is the computer. Many employees have desktops, or at the very least access to a desktop, and people who are part of the mobile workforce carry laptops from city to city, many of which contain all kinds of confidential data. Further, most of the people have access to the Internet, email, and instant messaging on both computers and cell phones. Technology has migrated to “smart” phones, web music/video appliances, and PDAs. Even without a PC, there can be the same or even greater access to the panoply of communication paths. As a result, another pathway of potential violence is introduced into workplaces with a simple power button and a few silicon chips." @default.
