- W103014966 abstract "In this study an accurate finite–difference scheme has been developed to investigate pulsatile, laminar, incompressible and thermally expandable fluid flow between two parallel plates. The present study was conducted for simultaneously (hydrodynamicaljy and thermally) developing flow for air at Reo(mean with time)=2000, w*=0.08, 8, 32 & 200, x/H from 0 to 71, Tw/To of 1.2 & 1.4. The numerical predictions were in excellent agreement with the closed form solutions available in the literature for pulsatile flow. For the range of wall/inlet temperature ratio and Valensi number (0.08 & 32) considered, the difference between the steady state Nusselt number and the local time–averaged one is less than 1% for each respective case. Moreover, for the same first order harmonic flow field, the temperature field contains only low order harmonics at low Valensi number; while at high Valensi number, distortions of the temperature fluctuations suggest higher order harmonics are present. The trend of the temperature field is similar for both incompressible and thermally expandable models. A video tape showing computer simulations of the pulsatile flow and heat transfer demonstrates the usefulness of the current analyses in providing information on the transient hydraulic and thermal phenomena." @default.
