- W103183938 abstract "The Bechgaard salts, (TMTSF)2x (where X is ClO4, PF6, ReO4 etc.), are best known for being the first organic superconductors, and exhibiting a rich phase diagram with spin density wave (SDW) and charge density wave formation, and many unusual anion ordering transitions as pressure, temperature and composition are varied1. However, their most interesting and to date unique properties result in the presence of an moderate magnetic field. The PF6 salt has the prototype behavior. At zero magnetic field, the material is metallic at room temperature and remains metallic until it undergoes a transition at ~12K to a SDW insulator. With application of pressure the SDW transition temperature is reduced until at a critical pressure Pc ~6kbar, the metallic state is stable to zero temperature. When the metallic state persists below ~ 1K there is a superconducting transition with Tc ~ 1K, which in turn is reduced as pressure is increased. Both SDW and superconducting transitions have of course been observed in other materials." @default.
