- W103314314 abstract "The optical changes in the retinal image as a function of focus are reviewed in relation to the initiation, direction and maintenance of the accommodation response. For any spatial frequency component in the object, the deterioration of ocular modulation transfer with defocus is more rapid when the spatial frequency is high or when the pupil is larger. Optical aberrations, particularly longitudinal chromatic aberration, appear to be of some value in guiding dynamic responses when initial errors of focus are modest (<2 D). Fluctuations in accommodation at low temporal frequencies (<0.6 Hz) may help to maintain the mean level of the steady-state response to any stimulus. Under conditions where only low spatial frequency information is available to the control system, due to the characteristics of the object (spatial frequency spectrum), observing conditions (e.g.low luminance) or observer (e.g.amblyopia), the steady-state response is less accurate." @default.
