- W106074180 abstract "This chapter discusses how the replication of mammalian Cells using DNA has damaged templates. The eventual synthesis of high molecular weight DNA in damaged cells has been termed “post-replication repair,” “replicative repair,” or “bypass repair.” When the replication fork reaches a lesion on the parental strand, it may be blocked permanently, delayed for a long period of time, delayed for a short time, or delayed not at all. The fork may continue past the lesion, it may reinitiate beyond the lesion or it may reinitiate at entirely new positions. These possibilities are not mutually exclusive, for example, in one cell, some forks may be delayed for a long time and then proceed past the lesions whereas others may be delayed for a short time and reinitiate beyond the lesions. Replication forks are blocked for a long time at lesions and do not reinitiate beyond them. The chapter also explains DNA replication in irradiated HeLa cells by fibre autoradiography." @default.
