- W107366295 abstract "Much is currently being made in feminist theory of the problems associated with the liberal notion of equality. Since it is based upon an unacknowledged male norm, it is argued that any gains made by women will ultimately be counter-productive as women's equality is measured against the capacities and abilities of men. The solution offered by feminists is for women to stress their specificity and autonomy, thus ensuring a benchmark for equality outside the same/difference debate. Consequently, the central intention of this paper is to discuss how such a debate operates within the physical education program in Queensland secondary schools. Using the experiences of five feminist female physical education teachers (gained through interviews conducted in 1992 in Brisbane), this paper will examine the ways in which a range of feminist theoretical stances about the relationship between women and sport/physical education become articulated in the confines of an overtly masculine and at times hostile and mysogynistic physical education curriculum." @default.
