- W10768483 abstract "The aim of study was to answer the questions: do neurosonographic findings correlate to brain injures of asphycted term neonates and do they have a prognostic importance. In a prospective study, 93 term neonates with perinatal asphyxia (group A) and 93 healthy term neonates (group B) were neurologically and neurosonographically examined. According to severity of asphyxia, group A was classified into three subgroups: a) babies with mild, b) babies with moderate and c) babies with hard asphyxia. Clinical neurological findings were classified into 6 and ultrasound scan into 4 levels. Groups A and B significantly differed at a delivery mode and presence of incipient fetal asphyxia, while there were no significant differences in mothers age and parity, and neonatal sex, body measures, gestational age and mayor morbidity. There were significantly more babies with abnormal neurological and neurosonographic condition in group A than in group B. Into the group A, there was significant correlation between the ultrasound findings and clinical neurological status, but not between the ultrasound findings and severity of asphyxia. There was no statistical difference found nor in neurological, neither in neurosonographic outcome. We concluded: that cranial ultrasound significantly corelate with neurologic disturbance, but not with Apgar score as a subjective standard of severity of asphyxia; that, this method is les important for diagnostic hipoxic-ischemic brain injures than for peri/intraventricular hemorrhage at term neonates and that it is not prognosticaly enough good, so it should be combined with other diagnostic procedures." @default.
