- W110007960 abstract "This chapter discusses the dielectric property of organic monolayer films, taking into account the difference between thick films and thin films. Maxwell displacement current (MDC) is very sensitive to the change in molecular motion of monolayers. Only the change in polarization PQ of monolayers can be detected. Because of the configurational change of the constituent molecules, phase transition of monolayers, and so forth, MDC shows a characteristic behavior that is available in electronics. For example, azobenzene monolayers experience a cis-trans configurational change by the alternating photoirradiation of ultraviolet (UV) and visible light, and result in the alternating change in the polarization P o. From the viewpoint of application such as memory storage media, this alternating change is very important because two configurational forms of molecules can be distinguished by the direction of MDC. Similar discussions hold good for the cases when other external stimulus such as pressure, heating, and so forth are used." @default.
