- W110228651 abstract "The chains of Paramecium cells and different kinds of the monsters have been obtained in axenic media of diverse composition. In cultures fed in excess (in double concentrated standard axenic medium) such forms appeared 3–4 days after inoculation. Fluorescent labelling of living cell surface with CDC and afterwards of nuclear apparatus with DAPI has been applied for characterization of the obtained forms. CDC labelling demonstrated the continuity of the surface membrane along the whole monsters and revealed a division furrow which had not been completed in the majority of chains formed. Dislocation of macro- and micronuclei as well as intercalary division has been detected in examined abnormal forms. The observed monstrosity has not been inherited: transferring to normal medium gave the normal specimens which in turn formed monsters in overfed conditions. The described abnormal forms of P. aurelia seem to be an interesting model in cell biology research and the technique of double sequential fluorescent labelling has been found especially useful in these studies." @default.
