- W111371020 abstract "Stepped helical salen complexes with vanadium as thecentral metal were synthesized and characterized. The helicity inthese complexes arise from the fused phenyl rings (phenanthryl andbenz[a]anthryl) as sidearms, whereas the chirality arises from thechiral cyclohexyl diamine or binaphthyl diamine backbones. Thesecomplexes showed good yields and moderate enantioselectivity inasymmetric sulfoxidation reactions with methylphenyl sulfide as thesubstrate and H2O2 or cumene hydroperoxide as the oxidants. Tofurther improve the closed nature of these complexes with atetradentate salen ligand, we synthesized and characterizedvanadium complexes with tridentate (S)-NOBIN backbone Schiff baseligands with phenanthryl and benz[a]anthryl as the sidearms. Afterinitial catalytic study, we concluded that these catalysts are tooopen in nature to impose face selection during asymmetricinduction. We also synthesized and characterized vanadium andtitanium salan complexes. These complexes can adopt β-cis geometry,thereby making the complex “chiral at metal” and they are known forbetter catalysts in terms of asymmetric induction than theirunreduced counterparts. However, these complexes showed bettercatalytic activity than their unreduced counterparts insulfoxidation reactions with methylphenyl sulfide as the substrateand H2O2 or cumene hydroperoxide as the oxidants. We also put aneffort to synthesize mixed salen complexes with vanadium as thecentral metal. These complexes have two different sidearms attachedto one backbone unit. However, our method did not work well toproduce pure mixed salen ligands. The catalysis results for mixedsalen vanadium complexes are also comparable to the unreducedvanadyl salen complexes. Lastly, we synthesized and characterizednew helical titanium Schiff base complexes with (S)-NOBIN backboneand phenanthryl and benz[a]anthryl sidearms. Single crystal studiesshowed that these complexes exist in the M helical conformation inthe solid state. These complexes showed moderate activity inasymmetric aldol addition reactions between 2-methoxy propene anddifferent aldehydes." @default.
