- W111409654 abstract "Univ. Angers-France.Introduction: Cu and Zn isotopicvariations have recently been reported forvarious terrestrial samples, thanks toanalytical developments on MC-ICP-MS[1,2]. These variations may be due to variousredox, biological or temperature conditions interrestrial environments. Cu and Zn isotopiccompositions (expressed as δ65 Cu vs. 63 Cuand δ66 Zn vs. 64 Zn) are reported for 20meteoritic samples : these encompass thefour main groups of carbonaceouschondrites, and iron meteorites. Formeteorites, Redox state, temperature andfractionation processes may be invoked as onEarth, but volatility might also play asignificant role in the case of Zn, amoderately volatile element. These elementsmay therefore bring important information onthe physico-chemical conditions at the timeof formation of the solar system, and also onprocesses occuring on meteoritic parentbodies.Analytics: A new chemical sep arationprocedure includes the separation of Zn onanion-exchange resin, followed by theprocedure developped by Marechal for Cu[1]. Because possible isotopic biases havebeen reported, several duplicates and eventriplicates have been done, which indicateagreements within 0.05‰ for aliquots of asame solution p rocessed through differentchemistries. Isotopic compositions weremeasured on the VG Plasma 54 at ENSLyon. Combined precision andreproducibility is ± 0.04‰ for samplesaround 500 ng. Results are exp ressed asδ65 Cu vs. NIST 976, and δ66 Zn vs. JMC400882B (in ‰).Results:All three isotopic ratios for Zn showmass-dependent relations for all samples, onthe same fractionation lines as terrestrialsamples, indicating isotopic homogeneity forZinc in the solar nebula at the time and p laceof formation of the samples.Cu isotopes : the overall variation is from-1.5‰ to +0.5‰. While Orgueil has aδ65 Cu value close to zero, Allende isstrongly negative (i.e. “light”; triplicateanalysis). Iron meteorites have negative toslightly positive values, but on the wholeheavier than chondrites. Several ironmeteorites analyzed (IIA and IIIA) show avery good isotopic homogeneity for Cuisotopes (duplicates within < 0.1‰), evenwhen two different dissolution proceduresare used : HCl and Aqua Regia. Cu isotopescorrelate very well in carbonaceouschondrites with Oxygen isotopes (Figure),increasing as the degree of alterationincreases (CO-CM-CI), suggesting, as forOxygen, the presence of a different, lighterCu in refractory minerals." @default.
