- W1119678275 abstract "The goal of this research was to estimate nitrogen (N) content in greenhouse crops at different light conditions using the color space IHLS (improved, hue, luminance saturation). The color space IHLS was designed for image processing and is quantitative unlike other color spaces in polar coordinates. The research was divided in three phases. Phase one was used to assess, by using digital images, if any component in color space IHLS and hue-saturation combination was correlated to N content in tomato seedling . In phase two, an assessment of effect of light on different plants images was done; crops used in this phase were chili, tomato and lily. The same components were evaluated in the color space IHLS as in phase one. In phase three the N content in lettuce was measured using the hue on the images acquired. The hue was the component that correlated best to the N content in tomato and was less affected by different light conditions with ANOVA (p<0.01) in tomato and (p<0.1) in lily and chili. Moreover the chlorophyll and total N content was measured in lettuce. In phase one was observed that hue correlates bets to the N content in tomato, obtaining a lineal model (R2 = 0.86). In phase two, hue was also found to be the component less susceptible to light variations. In phase three a good correlation between N content and hue values was found (R2 = 0.87). The results show that the hue component is affected by light conditions but has a better correlation with N content in the crops evaluated than saturation, luminance, RGB and for SPAD-502 in any occasions. Therefore measuring hue using color space IHLS can be appropriate and economic tool to measure N content in different crops." @default.
