- W112398882 abstract "A reconnaissance prospection for base metal and barite mineralizations in the left Rhenish Slate Mountains by the Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften and Rohstoffe, Hannover, in 1973–1977 has identified a large number of promising areas, so that follow-up investigations were carried out within the scope of a research project of the Ministry of Economics and Commerce, Rheinland-Pfalz. The target in the Hunsrück area has been the range of the Hunsrückschiefer that have accumulated to enormous thicknesses. Besides further base metal deposits known as the „Schieferungsgänge“ which are exclusively orientated in SW-NE-direction, synsedimentary, stratiform deposits in local depressions — third order basins — have been searched for. The geological situation, the geochemistry of the country rocks and the identical Pb-, Zn- and Cu-distribution in the ore and the Hunsrückschiefer suggest a deviation from these shales. The distribution of the mineralizations in the Eifel area is controlled by NNE-SSW and NW-SE-striking strain structures. Therefore areas of plunging anticlinal axes and horizontal flexure zones, where these structures are mainly installed, have been targeted. Finally 14 anomalies identified by the reconnaissance operations were subjected to geochemical follow-up investigations. The various contaminations in this central-European region strongly affect stream sediment sampling. For that reason the deepest soil-horizons were sampled during the systematic soil-survey and analyzed for Pb, Zn, Cu, Hg and Ba. Obtained soil-anomalies were supplemented by systematic collection of hard-rock samples. This detailed work confirmed the existance of three Ba anomalies in the west Eifel and two base metal anomalies in the Hunsrück. The Ba anomalies are located in areas of plunging axes at the marginal region of the Eifel N-S-Zone. The base metal anomalies lie within the range of the Hunsrückschiefer, where dispersion halos are developed, which contrast clearly with the normal element distributions." @default.
