- W112761320 abstract "Thesurvival ofChlamydia pneumoniae inaerosols was investigated byusing a chamberwitha capacity of 114.5 liters. We injected 5 x 107inclusion-forming units (IFU)ofC.pneumoniae inaerosols witha droplet size of3to5pm.Samples were taken after 30sandevery 1 minthereafter. Thesurvival ofC.pneumoniae was measured atfourtemperatures (8.5, 15,25,and35°C) andatthree different relative humidities (RH)of5,50, and95% foreachtemperature. Thesurvival ratesofStreptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus faecalis, KiebsieUla pneumoniae, Chlamydia trachomatis LGV2,andcytomegalovirus were alsodetermined at25°Cand 95%RH andcompared withthatofC.pneumoniae. Atthementioned temperatures andRH,a rapid decrease ofC.pneumoniae IFUwas observed inthefirst 30s.After this thedecrease inthenumberofIFU was more gradual. Thesurvival ofC.pneumoniae inaerosols was optimal at15to25°Cand95% RH;itwas good compared withthose ofother microorganisms. A lowerdeathratewas observed onlyinS.faecalis. InC. trachomatis, thedeathrateduring thefirst 30s was higher thanthatinC.pneumoniae (85and53.3%, respectively). After thefirst 30s,thedeathratesinthetwoorganisms were identical. Itwas concluded that transmission ofC.pneumoniae viaaerosols was possible. Thereisprobably adirect transmission fromperson toperson, taking into account therelatively short survival period ofC.pneumoniae inaerosols." @default.
