- W113075050 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses in vitro sensitivity of adipocytes from lean or fat chickens to glucagon and to an analogue of adenosine. Adenosine is a potent antilipolytic agent in rodent adipocytes. It is a potent inhibitor of adenylate cyclase. Addition of adenosine deaminase to the incubation medium exerts a sizeable stimulation of glycerol release by isolated rat adipocytes. The chapter also examines possible effects of adenosine on glycerol production. Fat and lean chickens belonged to the F9 generation. They were 14-day-old, that is, an age when body fat content of both lines is still the same. Adipocytes prepared from older birds tended to burst during collagenase digestion. Fed chickens were killed by decapitation and samples of adipose tissues were taken and immediately transferred at 37°C in incubation buffer. Adenosine deaminase slightly increased glycerol production from isolated chicken adipocytes in response to glucagon, an effect that was already maximal at a concentration of 0.5μ/ml and could be reversed by 1μM phenylisopropyl adenosine. At glucagon concentrations that permitted maximal or half maximal stimulation of glycerol production, 1 μM adenosine reduced glycerol production. However, in these conditions insulin was not antilipolytic." @default.
