- W113139675 abstract "Suckling rats develop diarrhea, with dehydration, retarded growth, and retarded hair development. Their abdomens are distended, with fecal staining of the perianal fur. Pasty or liquid feces can be expressed by gentle abdominal pressure. Pups continue to suckle with full stomachs. The distal small intestine and colon are distended with gas and yellow liquid to pasty fecal material. Mortality is variable, but can reach around 50%, particularly among the youngest rats. Surviving pups completely recover, and dams are asymptomatic (Hoover et al. 1985; Etheridge et al. 1988; Etheridge and Vonderfecht 1992)." @default.
