- W11382011 abstract "Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNAs) are oligomers in which the naturally occurring nucleobases are attached via methylene carbonyl linkages to an N-(2aminoethyl)glycine backbone [1]. PNA hybridizes strongly, with sequence specificity, to complementary DNA/RNA; such hybridization obeys the Watson-Crick base pairing rules. Alternatively, triple strands can form via Hoogsteen base-pairing [2-4]. We report here the synthesis of cyclic PNA-peptide hybrids with the goal to investigate molecular recognition mechanisms between such cyclic units, and for possible generation of nanotubular structures. Design of hollow tubular structures has been the subject of considerable research [5] for their potential applications to inclusion chemistry, catalysis, molecular electronics, and molecular separation technology." @default.
